With Labor Day right around the corner, the fragrant scent of barbecues and cookouts lingers in the air. Friends and families often celebrate the remaining days of summer by grilling burgers, dogs, and corn on the cob. But after eating this spread for Memorial Day, 4th of July, and weekend BBQs, it might be time to spice up your choices. So why not try one of these four meat alternatives? They’re tasty, filling, and sure to be a hit with vegetarians and carnivores alike!
Tofu tastes best in a delicious marinade. Before lighting up the grill, prepare extra firm tofu with soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, and garlic.
Grilling seitan requires just one ingredient- barbecue sauce. Marinate seitan pieces for one hour, throw them onto wooden skewers, grill and enjoy!
Try grilling tempeh in large pieces, then slicing them up with grilled peppers and onions to serve on a platter. Beforehand, soak your tempeh in olive oil, balsamic vinegar, maple syrup, and garlic.
- Portabello Mushrooms
A staple of vegetarian BBQ fare, portabello mushrooms are best in a glaze made with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, onions, and garlic. Make a sandwich by adding ciabatta bread, pesto, and tomatoes.
